Body condition score (BCS)

The WSAVA nine-point scale. Go through the three checks below and pick what matches — it beats any breed table.

5/9 — Ideal

1. Ribs
Ribs are palpable under a thin layer of fat but not visible.
2. Waist from above
Seen from above, there is a waist behind the ribs.
3. Profile from the side
Seen from the side, the abdomen tucks up towards the hind legs.

This is the state to hold. Nothing to change, only to keep watching.

Fill in the fields above and the result appears on its own.

How it is calculated

A score of 5/9 is the ideal; each point off it is roughly 10% of body weight. The kilograms here are therefore a rule-of-thumb estimate, not a target — a vet sets that from a physical exam, not a web calculator. The figure is mainly useful as a reason to go ask for one.

Where this comes from

This is an estimate from publicly published rules, not veterinary advice. A sick, nursing or pregnant animal is a vet's decision.

Want to track weight over time, not just once?

Biskio keeps a weighing history, so the trend towards the target shows in a chart, not just one number.
